Ammonium chloride, an inorganic compound with the formula NH4Cl, is a white crystalline salt, highly soluble in 
water. Solutions of ammonium chloride are mildly acidic. Sal ammoniac is a name of the natural, mineralogical 
form of ammonium chloride.
White powdered crystal or granular, specific gravity 1.532. easily absorbs moisture, and forms a cake, soluble in water, and the solubility varies as the temperature increases.

Properties: 

White crystal powder or granule; odorless, taste with salt and cool. Easy agglomerating after moisture absorption, soluble in water, glycerol and ammonia, is insoluble in ethanol, acetone and ethyl, it distillates at 350 and was weak acid in aqueous solution. Of ferrous metals and other metals are corrosive, in particular, greater corrosion of copper, non-corrosive effect of pig iron.

Uses:

1.Dry cell. used as electrolyte in zinc-carbon batteries.

2.Metalwork.as a flux in preparing metals to be tin coated, galvanized or soldered. 

3.Other applications. Used to work on oil wells with clay swelling problems. Other uses include in hair shampoo, in the glue that bonds plywood, and in cleaning products. In hair shampoo, it is used as a thickening agent in ammonium-based surfactant systems, such as ammonium lauryl sulfate. Ammonium chlorides used in the textile and leather industry in dyeing , tanning, textile printing and to luster cotton.
